Ultrapure water: BWT expertise serving the hydrogen industry

Using electrolysis to produce hydrogen requires ultrapure water. As an expert in this field, BWT is already well placed to develop the hydrogen industry.

Building on its position as world leader in producing ultrapure water based on its experience in the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries, BWT France is now putting its know-how and innovative technologies to use for the hydrogen industry.

As such, BWT France will be at the 8th Hyvolution trade fair, a key event for hydrogen industry professionals.

Hydrogen production requires an essential raw material: ultrapure water. BWT has been meeting the ultrapure water needs of its customers in the pharmaceutical, cosmetics and electronics sectors for many years. Although the industrial processes are different, BWT's expertise in this field perfectly meets the expectations of players in the hydrogen sector. Ultrapure water meets the same specifications in terms of impurity and mineral treatment, as well as low electrical conductivity.

When it comes to producing hydrogen, the water must first undergo ultrafiltration to treat all organic and chemical matter. Then, using double reverse osmosis, the mineral matter is removed and the electrical conductivity considerably reduced. This ultrapure water then has to be 'polished'.

"Even before the water is polished by an electrodeionization process, the ultrapure water produced already meets the needs of gigafactories, for example. Once the water has been polished, it becomes an excellent element for hydrogen production. Our proprietary systems enable us to meet the needs of this entire ecosystem, which is seeking industrial excellence, and whose demands are exploding. BWT is simply applying its methodology, expertise and experience to this new sector, which is critical to the ecological transition ", says Laurent Daisne, Sales Director for Industry & Tenement and Service Buildings at BWT France.

BWT France has already been approached by French gigafactories in the Hauts-de-France region. As such, the subsidiary is paving the way for the group.

“The French market is at least 5 years ahead in the hydrogen business, as is BWT, thanks to our world leadership in ultrapure water production. We're ready, and the Hyvolution trade fair will give us an opportunity to make that clear to the players in this forward-looking market“, adds Laurent Daisne.
