The Vernet Group

Combining industrial excellence and environmental commitment

The Vernet Group is an inventor of wax expansion thermoregulation, designing, manufacturing and distributing products for the housing and mobility sectors throughout the world. With more than 1,100 employees on every continent, the Vernet Group embodies almost a century of expertise. At its Cinq-Mars-la-Pile site, the company designs and produces thermostatic components for the sanitary and heating markets. Its mission: to offer reliable, high-performance and sustainable thermoregulation solutions. Committed to an ambitious environmental policy, with ISO 14001 certification and the LUCIE 26000 label, the Vernet Group incorporates sustainable development issues into every aspect of its business.

Faced with the dual requirement of product excellence and reduced environmental impact, the Vernet Group has embarked on an in-depth technical transformation of its process water management. Working alongside the group, BWT, a European expert in water treatment, deployed a tailor-made strategy to secure the installations while minimising the environmental footprint. This four-year collaboration illustrates how sustainability issues are redefining industrial models.

The issue

Controlling water in a closed circuit

The switch to a closed-loop circuit is a real challenge for Vernet Group. This configuration makes it possible to drastically reduce water consumption, a crucial objective for limiting the environmental footprint and controlling operating costs. However, this system involves complex technical constraints.

In a closed loop, the water circulates continuously without being renewed frequently, which requires irreproachable water quality over the long term. Poorly treated water encourages the proliferation of bacteria, in particular legionella, a major health risk. The water must also be perfectly balanced to prevent corrosion of sensitive equipment, which could lead to costly breakdowns and production stoppages. Scale deposits can clog circuits, reduce thermal efficiency and increase energy consumption.

So the treatment solution you choose must meet three fundamental requirements: reliable, long-lasting disinfection, effective protection against corrosion and deposits, and respect for the environment, with no polluting discharges or chemicals.

The solution

A tailor-made solution from BWT

To meet these challenges, BWT has developed an innovative solution adapted to the specific features of closed-loop operation: BWT ECO-UV technology. This system combines the action of UV-C radiation, renowned for its powerful disinfectant properties, with the addition of hydrogen peroxide, which reinforces the effectiveness of the treatment.

This process provides continuous, high-performance treatment, guaranteeing perfectly disinfected water without producing chemical residues or toxic by-products. Installed at strategic points in the network, ECO-UV technology automatically adjusts to variations in flow, ensuring constant, optimum water quality.

In addition, BWT favours a water balancing approach rather than the use of traditional anti-scaling or anti-corrosion chemicals. By using demineralisation bottles and a controlled supply of municipal water, the system maintains a stable mineral balance in the circuits.

By significantly reducing the use of conventional chemicals, this solution significantly reduces the environmental impact of water treatment, while guaranteeing the longevity of the installations and complying with the Group's sustainable commitments.

"We have achieved a very high level of performance, both in terms of health safety for our operators and production quality", says Frédéric Renard, Maintenance Manager at Vernet Group. "BWT is a responsive, reliable partner that is always ready to make suggestions."

"This ongoing collaboration with BWT, now in its fourth year, enables us to reduce our environmental footprint on a daily basis, while preserving natural resources. This water quality project is destined to become more widespread within the Vernet Group, by virtue of the principle of continuous improvement that guides our teams. This principle has always been applied to all our products, and is now being applied to our environmental commitments", says Flavien Lebois, Continuous Improvement Manager at the Vernet Group.
