Cosmetics industry
Combining industrial performance and water conservation
Laboratoires Sarbec, a European leader in the cosmetics and health sectors, embodies excellence, innovation and sustainability. Based in Neuville-en-Ferrain, one of its strategic sites, the group employs 200 people every year to produce 85 million packaging units, divided between cosmetics and wipes. Backed by more than 10 years' collaboration with BWT, Laboratoires Sarbec is implementing cutting-edge solutions
to optimise the use of water, an essential resource in its industrial processes. This commitment reflects their desire to combine industrial performance with respect for the environment, while meeting the highest standards in the sector. As a committed and visionary player, Laboratoires Sarbec places environmental responsibility at the heart of its priorities, consolidating its status as a pioneer in a fast-changing industry.

The issues
Producing high-quality purified water while optimising resources
At a time when resource management is becoming a major issue for industry, Laboratoires Sarbec is faced with a dual challenge: guaranteeing the high quality purified water that is essential to the manufacture of its cosmetic products and reducing the environmental impact of its production.
Although the European Pharmacopoeia does not require the use of pharmaceutical-grade water for cosmetic products, Laboratoires Sarbec aims for excellence by adopting these strict standards to meet consumer expectations and ensure the safety of its formulations.
At the same time, the company is seeking to control its water consumption by rethinking the way it uses waste from purification processes. The aim is to recycle this water to meet secondary needs such as equipment cleaning or steam production, while reducing the demands on natural resources as much as possible.
The solution
Innovative solutions to optimise efficiency, produce purified water and limit waste
To meet the challenges of quality and sustainability, Laboratoires Sarbec has worked with BWT to design complete, innovative solutions. These installations ensure that production complies with the requirements of the European Pharmacopoeia while reducing the site's environmental footprint.
A BWT Sigma osmosis unit was installed in the boiler room to optimise boiler efficiency, with a production capacity of 6 m³/h.
At the same time, the BWT OSMOTRON system was chosen to produce pharmaceutical-grade purified water. A genuine all-in-one solution, this equipment integrates all the stages required to produce purified water, from pre-filtration to electrodeionization using the BWT SEPTRON module, and delivers a flow rate of 15 m³/h.
Given the increase in demand, the BWT Sigma osmosis unit in the boiler room was reused and supplemented by a BWT SEPTRON electrodeionization module to create a second purified water loop. This is part of a drive to optimise existing infrastructure to meet growth targets.
Finally, a concentrator has been added to the BWT Sigma system to maximise water use and limit waste by increasing the osmosis plant's efficiency from 75% to 85%. This solution is part of an overall strategy to reduce water consumption, including the recovery of waste water for reuse in equipment cleaning circuits.
